When it comes to choosing a career most of us want a job that can pay us well, as well as give us a job satisfaction. Trucking is one such option that allows you to be adventurous and at the same time earn a fat pay packet. Truck driving has become popular in America with as many as 3 million Americans driving trucks as full timers. It is an upcoming field with a secured job future. Trucking can earn you up to $100,000 a year. There are still many companies who look out for responsible drivers and if you are looking forward to get into trucking, you need to know all the things that are required to become a commercial truck driver.

Initially, there are was not much qualification required for truck drivers. However, a person who has completed a high school diploma or a GED is considered for the post of driving. If you have not completed any of this you still may have slim chances of getting the job, if the driving record is clean. When hiring a commercial truck driver, emphasis is laid on the way you drive and your past record of driving. You should not be convicted for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Also you should not have too many tickets for over speeding. You should not be involved in any accident or other road mishaps. Most of the companies are looking for a person who can handle the trucks responsibly and the fact that a person has clean driving records shows that he or she has been responsible enough.

To improve your driving skills you can attend a school and get trained to drive a truck. You need to be excellent at your driving to survive in this field. The driving schools not only teach you how to handle a truck, but also make you aware of safety tips and rules when you hit the road. Many schools do give placement as well, however you need to pass the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations Exam run by U.S Department of Transportation. A commercial truck driver is required to obtain a permit for driving a truck of 26000 pounds and a small truck carrying dangerous items. Before you are hired by any company you would have to undergo a hearing and vision test to make sure you have a good eye sight. You would also have to go through a drug test. These tests are important to avoid any mishaps later.

A commercial truck driver needs to travel many places at odd hours. Though the jobs sounds very interesting, it's not very easy. You may enjoy driving but handling a huge truck is a big responsibility. Trucking has proved beneficial to many men and women. There are many people who earn extra by working extra hours.

All it takes to be a truck driver is guts, confidence and a sound knowledge of roads and driving. If you are the one who is ready to travel places and adapt yourself to any environment, commercial truck driving is definitely one of the best career option for you.
