Oh the weekends just aren’t long enough! Now you have to go back to work and slave away. You feel overworked and under’appreciated. Many of us feel depressed at work, but before you make any drastic decisions, take a minute to analyze your career and try to pin point the problem. From this, you will know what to avoid in your next career move.

Take into consideration all the things you love to do. Perhaps you have a hobby or a passion for something that you would happily do for free. It’s a good idea to think about your strengths and weaknesses. If you find this difficult, ask a friend or colleague to help. See if they can help to identify what you would be best at.

Picture yourself doing you ideal job and list the things your CV is missing in order to do it. Once you know what qualifications your dream job requires, research courses or other ways to develop the necessary skills. Decide the minimum salary that your new job would have to offer you, the hours you would be willing to work and location.

Once you are sure that leaving is your only option, ensure that your CV is up-to-date. Throw yourself into job hunting. Many people are under the misconception that if you send a few CVs out, employers will come to you. When applying for a job you’ve seen advertised, send a CV and covering letter. If you don’t hear anything from the company, call and ask – the employer will prefer candidates that take a bigger interest. You have to be as pro-active as possible.

When you consider how many hours of your life you spend at work, you will understand just how important enjoying your job really is. Counting down the hours until home time is no way to spend your time!
