If you're a business owner and you want to take advantage of Internet marketing, banner ads are useful, but they can also be quite expensive. This doesn't really help you if you're on a limited budget. In this case, you may find that banner exchanges are useful. For example, you can place your own banner ad on a web site that receives a lot of traffic and would likely attract an audience who would be interested in your product or service.

In addition, whoever owns this web site should not be a direct competitor of yours. This might be difficult to find, and even if you can, your ability to purchase advertisement space can be expensive, especially if you're in a very competitive niche. In this case, banner exchanges are affordable even for those on modest budgets.

What is perhaps most appealing is that they're cost-effective and efficient. Most banner exchanges are free to those who participate. Rather than placing a banner ad by yourself, you don't incur any financial cost for your banner ad to appear on another web site. However, the business owner, namely you, does have an obligation to take care of.

Most banner ad exchanges find another web site for you to post your advertisement without charging a fee. They then require you to post at least one banner ad on your web site, sometimes more, in exchange. Most banner ad exchanges attempt to match your banner ad to another relevant web site. However, this isn't always possible and therefore, the web site your banner ad appears on might not be relevant to your products or services. This means that not only will the banner ads generate very little interest in your products and services, but your ad could show up on a web site you'd rather not.

Therefore, be aware that you are exchanging some control for the cost-effectiveness these exchanges get you. It may also be true that the ads that appear on your web site do not mesh with your content, so it's very clear that you're advertising and this, in turn, may be of some detriment to you, since blatant advertisements can drive visitors away. Most likely, you can reject categories you find to be offensive, but other than that, you're not likely to be able to moderate the banner ads that appear on your web site.

Another affordable option to you in terms of banner ad placement may be an affiliate marketing campaign. In this case, web site owners or affiliates post your banner ad on their web sites and promote your products and services for you in this way. Typically, the banner ads include text and graphics, which encourage Internet users to click through on the ad to your web site. These also include embedded code. This provides you with statistics telling you which affiliates generated your web site traffic.

This is necessary, because affiliates need to be paid and they won't be unless they get people to click through the ad to your web site or make a purchase. Under normal circumstances, affiliates are compensated either on a per click basis or a per sale basis. If the affiliate receives payment on a per click basis, they receive a certain amount of money every time someone clicks on the ad. If they receive money on a per sale basis, this means the affiliate gets either a flat fee or a percentage of the sale for each sale generated by that click through.

They can also be can hate on a cost per lead basis, that and this means that they are compensated when a visitor performs a certain action, such as registering with a web site or filling out a survey. Most people like affiliate programs, because they're cost effective and you can place your banner ads on web sites and only must pay affiliates who successfully encourage click throughs.
