Does He Only Date Me for My Beauty?

Although there are some guys who will only date girls who look good on their arm, girls who make them feel good about themselves, you have to think about why you're asking this question. Why do you think that someone would only date you for your beauty? Do you think that there's no other reason why he would date you?

Women (and guys for that matter) who feel that their partner is only interested in them because of their physical appearance are often people who lack self confidence. Throughout their lives they have probably been referred to as 'the pretty one', 'the cute guy', 'the one with the beauty', 'could be a model'. Perhaps you've even heard the "you're so pretty you don't need to worry about school!"

As great as this sounds when you're young, it becomes a tape that you replay in your head as you get older so that you start to think that your looks are all that matter to other people. Even if you really enjoy the fact that you are pretty, and you love taking care of your looks, your body and what you wear, there's still a person with more depth inside you and it's not hard to see why you would ask this question if you've never had validation for your 'internal beauty'.

Think about your boyfriend. It's more than acceptable for a guy to take pride in the fact that his friends think his girl is hot. It's kind of a status thing. But is there more to your relationship to that? Do you and your boyfriend talk about things that are happening locally, or in the news media? Do you and your boyfriend ever visit places such as a museum or gallery? Does your boyfriend always refer to how you look but never about how intelligent you are? Does he comment on what you're wearing but never on what you say about something?

Another point to consider is what your boyfriend has to say about other women. Does he only value women who have a beautiful shell, or does he value women who have good internal attributes but perhaps aren't as pretty? How he values other women is a good indication of how he values you.

Although you may come to the conclusion that looks do matter most to him, and that is the only reason that he's dating you, you also need to accept yourself as being a good person who is more than a pretty face. Move on to find a guy who is looking for a partner who may look good on the outside, but who is more interested in what his girlfriend has to say rather than how she looks.
