Look, you are a realist. You accept the fact that there is no such thing as a perfect relationship. In fact you know that the word perfection should only apply to quizzes and exams not human interaction.

But here you are again. Either she is giving you the cold shoulder or really ragging on you. For what? You did not do anything wrong. All the important dates have been remembered; everything from the anniversary of when you bought that first goldfish together to her mom's birthday. And of course you did not say anything wrong did you?

You think for moment. "Say anything like what?"

1. About her friends
Can we all just get along? No and the chances that she has some acquaintances that you cannot stand is very possible to the point of guaranteed. They get on your nerves. Period. But sometimes you have to go that extra mile for your lady and practice unparalleled diplomatic skills. Now it is one thing if one of her friends out and out disrespects you. That is when your woman needs to step in and handle the situation. Not because you had to force the issue but because she is on the same wave length. They may have known her longer but that does not give them the right to look down on you. The point is to either talk it over with your lady or if you can develop a thick skin just grin and bear it. Avoid making cruel remarks about her friends. If nothing else keep away from making any comments to where she can hear you or the word gets back to her.

Of course there is also the other end of the spectrum. You like her friends especially the cute redhead with the hourglass figure (hey you're a guy. You notice these things) so you let slip what you believe to be an innocent compliment. Wrong. The built in radar system most women have is very sensitive to the ever shifting dynamics of a relationship. What maybe totally innocent to you sounds like a threat to her particularly when the friend is part of her inner circle. Is the redhead a hottie? Is water wet? But do yourself, your lady and the relationship a favor by keeping quiet.

2. About your exes
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas and what happened with you past girlfriends should stay in the past. No woman wants to be compared to someone you used to date so take her for her own strengths and weaknesses. Think about how you would feel if the situation was reversed and she kept rambling on about her ex boyfriend (You met him once. He's a creep). Remember that your ex girlfriends are your exes for some reason or another. Live in the moment and let her know that she is the most significant woman in your life.

When it comes to relationships, the word perfection is a ridiculous fantasy. It does not exist. But there are things you can keep check on to make sure the relationship gets better. Be mindful of sensitive issues like the way you talk about her friends and avoid mentioning your former girlfriends. Keep her happy and there is no doubt she will do the same for you.
