You have got the determination, you have the brains, you are hard working you have the dedication but you do not wish to go for MBA or IT industry like the rest, than what is the right option for you? The answer to this question is IAS.

Yes, IAS is a hot favorite when it comes to career picking, as it has a huge amount of returns to it, but it surely needs a lot a hard work, and hard work mixed with dedication and determination. If you are below 30 yrs of age, you could actually become the collector of the entire district per se you have great managerial skills, and the mind set to actually create a difference. If you perform really well, you can end up being the very person the chief minister or even someone who the prime minister consults!

What is IAS?
Civil services are the backbone for our government to smoothly commence and carry out its activities. IAS – Indian administrative services is a part of it, rather it’s a major part of the civil services and brings along with it huge benefits like a prestigious post, high administration authority, perks and good salary, allowances, and various other facilities like healthcare, housing, conveyance etc

Pattern of Examination for IAS:
The IAS examination basically comprises of two consecutive steps for the examination:

iii) Civil Services (First Round) Examinations (Objective Type) for the selection of applicant for Main Examination.
iv) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of applicant for the various services and posts.

The preliminary test is divided into two sets of objective examination totaling to 450 marks.

The main test consists of 9 parts -
• First is the Indian national language which the student can pick amongst the various options given there
• Second is the English paper for 300 marks
• Third is the essay again for 300 marks
• Fourth and fifth are the papers consisting of the general studies subject
• Sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth e consist of various optional subjects from which the student can select any two which is further divided into two sets of papers for 300 marks each

• The next step is the interview again for 300 marks

One thing that has to be noticed here is that the marks obtained in the Indian language paper and English paper, have no effect on the ranking of the student, they are just counted for qualification basis.

Eligibility criteria for IAS:
The age criterion is – 21yrs – 30 yrs of age, though the upper age is flexible for SC/ST and OBC as per our legal system.
The educational criteria specifies that a Bachelor’s degree is required of a recognized university with at least one of these subjects – zoology science, physics, engineering, husbandry of animals etc. or a similar degree..

No. of Attempts:-

General category – Four times
OBC and SC/ST – Seven times

Tips for IAS Exam:
The subject should be chosen with high amount of awareness and precision.
One should keep in mind various points as the paper IAS objective type in the prelims round. One should see the thoroughness, the level, availability of books, type of subject etc before choosing one.
A good amount of general knowledge is significant, hence one needs to be updated with the current events and news by thoroughly reading magazines, newspapers, television, quiz shows etc. to be aware of it, as GK counts majorly in the exam scores and ranking of the candidate.
Enhancement of one’s personality, both physical as well as mental, is very necessary. As IAS is not a cake walk hence it is important to keep themselves fit and fine.
Then, there are other points to polish like one’s reading skills, level on concentration, speed of writing, speaking skills, management’s skills etc which needs to be taken care of to clear an IAS exam.

Preparation Tips For IAS Exam:

• One needs to put in a lot of time dedication plus concentrated devotion to prepare thoroughly for IAS exam
• One should ideally go for preparing in the reverse order, and tune up his time-management skills and rational thinking
• Writing skills should be excellent, as it being a paper which includes essay and English writing exams. One should have good and speedy writing skills as well as good expression of thoughts. One should practice by reading a lot and writing lot of essays
• Thorough study of all the subjects and those chosen by the candidate for his/her prelims, checking the availability of books and going through the best author, being update on the Latest happenings all over the globe and good knowledge of GK are again very essential

Though preparing for IAS requires dedication, hard work and determination, it has always been one of the most sought after careers in the field of education. So, before entering this arena, make sure that you are ready to put-in your 100%.
