Stop And Listen

Whenever such a situation arises, you may first try to defend themselves by offering excuses. Instead of getting panicky about the situation, you should stay calm, take a deep breath and analyze where the criticism is coming from. Analyze if there is any truth in the allegations. Keep things to yourself and avoid discussion, if possible.

Try not to take it personally. This is easy to say and very difficult to follow, but you still need to try to do it. Since criticism is part of the work environment, you will have to deal with it at some time or other.

Always remember that you need to learn from your mistakes. If you do not get the promotion that you applied for, think about why you failed and in which area you were lacking. If your performance is not up to the expectations of management, think about introducing a few changes that could bring your work positive results. Instead of dwelling on any particular failure, do a thorough assessment and make the necessary changes.

Remember that you are not the only one facing criticism. There are many famous people who have encountered failure, sometimes even in public, but still managed to overcome their negative situations. A little positive thinking can work wonders - you just need to concentrate and focus on the positive aspects and be confident when facing criticism.

Turn Criticism Into Constructive Feedback

Avoid offering feedback to an employee that has received criticism. Such a practice results in the individual becoming more hesitant to change. Obviously, it is not possible to ignore the problem if it is really serious and in such a situation, instead of criticism, you could offer constructive feedback to encourage positive results.

Valuable criticism is that which results in a positive approach and can be handled in various ways. It should be very practical and clearly defined, in order to change the behavior pattern. This positive approach helps the employee to realize that there is something in it for them if they change their behavior or methods.

Feedback is not supposed to be always negative and there are times where you can offer positive feedback. However, it is easy to get along with positive feedback, but when it comes to negative feedback, it becomes a little tougher. So be very careful while handling negative feedback and try to make it positive and achieve good results out of the effort.
