Born Hannah Golofski in 1923, Anne Klein resided in New York her whole life.

In 1939, when she was eighteen years old, she married. She adopted the name of her new husband, Ben Klein, to become Anne Klein. A few years hence, she launched her profession as a fashion designer, somewhat departing from, but also inspired from her artist's preparation she'd been given earlier that decade.

In 1948, Ms. Klein established Junior Sophisticates to fashion outerwear geared to younger ladies and stayed at the helm for nearly twenty years. In 1968, she established Anne Klein and Co. in conjunction with her second husband Matthew "Chip" Rubinstein.

Over the next years, she would enjoy the height of her profession. She was inducted into the Coty Fashion hall of fame in 1971, received the Neiman-Marcus fashion leadership award in 1969 and, along with additional fashion luminaries Yves St. Laurent and Pierre Cardin, showed her work in a V.I.P. style show at Versailles in 1973 to raise money for the castle.

Anne Klein was 51 in 1974 when she died after a struggle with breast cancer. Donna Karan then took charge to direct the business and continued there until she decided to step down and form her own business. Anne Klein and Company preserves its good name today as a standard-bearer in women's fashion, emphasizing chic and practical designs.
